The Oregon Council of Teachers of Math (OCTM) is here to support all math teachers in Oregon by creating community and keep you informed of the latest news in the math education world.

2025-26 Oregon Math Leaders Network 

The Oregon Math Leaders Network is a community of math practitioners who work together to implement and support math teaching and learning in Oregon. Participants include teacher leaders, TOSAs, program administrators, college faculty, and math community partners. If you identify as a math leader, you are invited! The 2025-26 virtual meetings will continue to take place on the third Thursday of each month at 8:30 AM on Zoom.

      New Resource: Evidence‑Based Algebra Instruction for Middle and High School

      The Institute of Education Sciences (IES), through the Regional Educational Laboratories (REL), has released the Toolkit to Support Evidence‑Based Algebra Instruction in Middle and High School. This resource is a free, research‑aligned resource designed to strengthen algebra teaching and learning in grades 6–12.

      Resource Spotlight: Transformative Social Emotional Learning (TSEL) in Mathematics

      The TSEL Teacher’s Guide: Mathematics is a new, math‑specific resource on the Oregon Instructional Frameworks website designed to help educators intentionally integrate Transformative Social Emotional Learning (TSEL) into math instruction.

      Transformative SEL Resource Hub: Hosted on the Oregon Instructional Frameworks website, this hub provides curated tools and materials to support implementation across classrooms, schools, and communities.

      TSEL Learning Modules (Educators & Teams): Self‑paced modules designed to help educators explore and apply TSEL concepts in instructional settings, including reflection and application to classroom practice.

      An expanded resource library provides additional materials to help educators, facilitators, and family and community partners understand and implement TSEL practices.

        ODE and Smarter Balanced Assessment Recruitment: ELA and Math Grades 3 - 8 and High School

        The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) has partnered with Smarter Balanced for the continued development of new Summative Test items. There will be opportunities to participate in ELA Reading Passage Review, Math Rangefinding and calibration, and both ELA and Math Data Review.

        NEW this year’s application is the opportunity for educators to indicate which events they are interested in participating in (Select all that apply). Information on the Smarter Balanced Educator Recruitment website also includes an FAQ page. Educators who might have additional questions about the recruitment process can complete the Smarter Balanced Contact Us Form.

        STEM Education Plan Engagement | April 27–May 15, 2026

        The STEM Investment Council, ODE, and HECC invite educators and partners statewide to share input on revisions to the 2026–2030 STEM Education Plan. Feedback collected during this engagement window will help shape statewide priorities, strategies, and investments that support STEM learning and workforce pathways. More details on how to participate are coming soon here.

        SEED Survey Resources

        ODE SEED Survey Web Site, including two math lesson plans: one for grades 3-5 and one for grade 6-11.

        Oregon Middle School Math Statewide PLC

        A virtual statewide PLC for middle school math educators began March 3, 2026 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. PST. Upcoming dates: May 5, June 2.
